All about our mega vacation
We love to visit art museums all around the world. During our travels we have visited art museums in cities like Lima, Santiago, Medellin, Singapore and Tokyo. Although we have visited Bangkok many times and went to several different historical museums throughout our visits, we have never seen an art exhibition there yet. So we decided it was about time to see one. And just by coincidence we were in the Thai capital during the first Bangkok Art Biennale.
As we near the end of our mega vacation, I would like to take you back a couple steps. It will be a bit more of a visual story this time. We opted for a fully aranged boat tour on the Bornean version of the Amazon river: the Kinabatangan. We were in for a treat!
My father’s family is from Dutch-Indonesian decent. My grandparents grew up in Surabaya (Indonesia) and lived there untill their mid 20’s. They lived there during the end of the Dutch colonial era, when the county was called Dutch East Indies. After 1960 the family had to relocate to the Netherlands because of commotion after the indepence. However, a big part of my grandparents’ lives, including getting together, took place in Surabaya.
Do you like hiking on your own? Do you like the jungle? Do you like mangrove forest? Do you like (a chance) to spot wildlife? Then the Kabili trail in Sepilok (on Borneo) might just be the day hike for you!

Just before leaving Vietnam and heading for Sri Lanka, we had a special occasion coming up. Together for 10 years and married for two, that calls for a celebration. The thing is, the past months have been one big fiësta. So what would be the way to celebrate?
We’re back! And by back I mean back on the road. Since the first of july we are continuing our travels but this time in Asia. We started in Malaysia and in a week time we’ve already walked the skybridge of the Petronas towers and have seen glowing mushrooms in the jungle.

If you ask people what traveling is all about, you will get a different answer every time. Soul searching, immersing yourself in other cultures, creating memories, leaving your comfortzone, sampling new cuisines, learning to be on your own, staying within budget, you name it. Everybody has a different reason for packing their bags and going on an adventure.
We took a nightbus to Huaraz with only one goal in mind: going on the 4 day Santa Cruz trek. Having read great stories about this hike in the Cordillera Blanca, we were really looking forward to being out in the mountains for four days. But no matter how well you prepare, sometimes things just don’t go as planned.
Don’t get me wrong, the following is definitely not a complaint about the discomforts of traveling. We were just thinking that we only posted positive stories of our travels. That’s why I’d like to share a bit of the other side of traveling in South America.
We’ve seen and done great things within the last three months. That’s why we call ourselves lucky that we just had three minor setbacks during our stay in South America untill now (knock on wood).
Because of a lack of wifi, we missed a good offer on our tent, meaning we are still carrying it around. And stuff you carry on your back, you might as well use. So while booking a tour to the famous Uyuni salt flats, Thomas casually informed about camping options, eager to start a new adventure.
